She says she is shy when meeting someone for the first time but gets over it soon and engages in lively conversation – a good quality for someone like Priyanta Pritika Datt, our Model of the Fortnight, who wants to be a nurse.
Migrating to New Zealand ten years ago with her parents from their native Suva in Fiji, she was sure that this country would afford her ample opportunities to pursue her interests, which included music, swimming, badminton, makeup, shopping, travel and ‘hanging out with friends.’
Completing her school career at Avondale College with qualifications in NZQA Levels 1 to 3, Priyanta obtained her Health Care Support Certificate at AUT.
She is excited about commencing her nursing career this year.
“My ambition is to become a successful nurse, preferably a midwife, and travel around the work and work in different countries,” she said.
Creative and down-to-earth, Priyanta hopes to make a mark in the world of creativity, beauty and modelling.
“Although I want to become a qualified and professional nurse, I hope to take time out to do modelling if I get the right opportunity to do so. I was diffident in the beginning because of my physique and culture,” Priyanta said.
However, her diffidence turned to diligence when she participated in a modelling competition organised by ‘Styleculture’ last year.
“I gained invaluable confidence in being under the limelight. The support extended by my family made it easier,” Priyanta said.
She said she is capable of hard work and knows that success comes to only those who were willing to try.
“I have learnt never to give up anything, even if I have to go back to where I started. I just keep my head high, persist in what I do, until I reach my goal,” she said.
