More than a pageant, a showcase of talent

Rhythm House Limited Director Dharmesh Parikh, who has been organising Miss Indianz event for the past 14 years, says that the Programme is a ‘dazzling celebration of Kiwi-Indian culture’ and has become way more than just a beauty pageant.

“The judging panel will select a winner on the night but our main focus is to showcase and celebrate upcoming talent; not just of the contestants themselves, but also many other singers, musicians and dancers. Miss Indianz is organised to amaze and enthral. Stage, lights, sound and video will be state-of-the-art and entertainment will be nothing short of a grand spectacle,” he said.

Gurpreet Sidhu

Self-confidence, articulated conversation and grace are among the attributes of Gurpreet Sidhu, who hails from the former princely City of Patiala in the North Indian State of Punjab.

This young woman lives and works as Housekeeper at a famous resort in Queenstown, a city which rivals Switzerland for its scenic beauty and serene environment.

Gurpreet said that she has been a keen participant at all functions and competitions since her early years in school. The turning point in her show business occurred when was selected to perform a dance item at an international event while at school.

“Stage performance is a part of my dream and I look forward to a great time at Miss Indianz 2016,” she said.

“Gurpreet is adept at the art of communications. She is sincerely committed to give a great performance at our event this year,” Mr Parikh said.

Hushmita Kajol Mudaliar

Born and raised in New Zealand, Hushmita Kajol Mudaliar is an East Aucklander pursuing her Bachelor of Health Science degree at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT). She hopes to offer Oral Health as major subjects and become a qualified Dental Therapist.

Hushmita said that she has been learning Bharata Natyam since her formative years and that fashion and modelling are among her passions.

She described Miss Indianz 2016 as a ‘life time opportunity to express her talent and individuality.’

“Life is a game and hence I have to play it, enjoy it and win it. This event will build my self-confidence to empower this society, with the firm belief that ‘Beauty is not about having a pretty face. It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart and most importantly, a beautiful soul.’ I am looking forward to this great programme,” she said.

Shika Vala

Shika Vala belongs to the noble, Gandhian State of Gujarat in India. Born and raised in the former Capital city of Ahmedabad, she has designs on the elegant profession of architecture. As a student on the subject at Unitec, she hopes to be involved in dream projects that enhance the value of properties and promote businesses.

A resident of Auckland since July 2014, Shika also evinces interest in fashion modelling.

“I would also like to experience what it takes to be in the entertainment industry. It is a bit of a cliché but there are not many Indian girls who do not dream of being an actress one day. I am one of them,” she said.

An achiever in Arts, Academics and Athletics Shika hopes that Miss Indianz 2016 will enable her to connect with the community, giving vent to her penchant for making friends and widening her social circle.
