More work visas for Fijians?

Venkat Raman in Fiji –

New Zealand may consider granting more work visas for seasonal workers from Fiji to meet the growing demand for such labour, Prime Minister John Key said.

Speaking to New Zealand and Fiji media at the Naiyala High School near Nausori on June 10, 2016 he said that his government may consider such work visas from the ensuing season this year.

“We may need between 80 and 100 seasonal workers in our horticulture sector.  We want to engage with Fijians who are known for their hard work,” he said.

But Mr Key did not go into specifics.

Other Visas

There are also indications that following the ease of tension and end of diplomatic winter between the two countries, there could be increasing movement of people, including grant of student and work visas.

Indian Newslink is in touch with the concerned authorities and will publish confirmed information as and when made available.

More Reports and pictures on the visit of Prime Minister John Key to Fiji appear in this issue.
