Music programme promises golden memories

If you are among those discerning music buffs who relish in the music of yesteryear-Hindi films, then expect the best at an evening of melody in Auckland.

Sursangam, arguably the only event management company in New Zealand that has successfully staged musical and entertainment programmes in recent years, will present an evening of songs culled from the films of Dev Anand, one of the greatest artistes of our times.

Gopal Bhatia, Director of Sursangam and Programme Presenter and Marketing Executive at Radio Tarana is the man organising the show.

“For several years I have had the privilege of presenting popular artistes (including Asha Bhosle, Amit Kumar and Manna Dey) along with local talent in Auckland. I have had the privilege of association and patronage of a number of commercial organisations as sponsors, advertisers and well-wishers. Radio Tarana has undoubtedly been my single most important strength, reaching out to tens of thousands of listeners every week. The forthcoming programme is a tribute to one of my favourite heroes of all times,” he said.

The programme, called, Gata Rahe Mera Dil, will have the performance of Kishor Bhanushali, who looks, talks and acts like the original hero. He is known and widely accepted as ‘Junior Dev Anand.’

As well as imitating the great actor on screen and stage, Kishor has 25 films to his credit, the foremost among which are Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Dil, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi and Paayal.

Madhura Datar, an upcoming playback singer in Bollywood, will accompany him on stage, along with Mr Bhatia and other singers from our own talent pool.

As mentioned in these columns earlier, there are hundreds of Dev Anand songs that have remained immortal. Here is a preliminary, short list of numbers that we hope to hear at the forthcoming show: Aankhon Hi Aankhon Mein (by Geeta Dutt & Mohammed Rafi in CID), Are Yaar Meri Tum Bhi Ho Gajab (Kishore Kumar & Asha Bhosle in Teen Deviyan), Gata Rahe Mera Dil (Kishore Kumar & Lata Mangeshkar in Guide), Hum Bekhudi Mein (Mohammed Rafi in Kala Pani), Jayen to Jayen Kahan (Talat Mahmood in Taxi Driver), Jeevan Ki Safar Mein Rahi (Kishore Kumar in Munimji) and Ye Dil Na Hota Bechara (Kishore Kumar in Jewel Thief).

Radio Tarana newsreader Preeta Vyas is the Event Coordinator of Gata Rahe Mera Dil (Talent of the Fortnight in our September 1, 2011 issue).

Tickets for the show are now on sale, with VIP seats, priced at $35 entitled for $5 discount for Indian Newslink readers.
