Muslims pay tribute to Prophet Mohammed

Staff Reporter

The Birth Day celebrations of Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him) were marked by piety and prayers at a meeting organised by the Maunatul Islam Trust of New Zealand in the South Auckland suburb of Mangere last week.

A large number of men, women and children attended the celebration held at the Trust premises on Thomas Road on Sunday, January 11, 2015.

Maulana Mohammed Amin Ahmed of Sydney, Australia, Hafiz Musa Patel of Lautoka Fiji and Hussain Kutty were among the guest speakers.

They spoke about the Prophet, his teachings and the message of goodwill and friendship that he carried wherever he went.

“The Birthday of our Prophet is an event to cherish. Muslims all over the world have love and affection for our beloved Prophet, who was the perfect example of modesty, kindness, courage and generosity,” they said.

Earlier, addressing the gathering, Trust President Tahir Samut said that Muslims in New Zealand stand for peace and harmony and believe in living together with people of all ethnic groups as per the teachings of the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet.

“We have always strived to integrate ourselves into the mainstream of the society,” he said.

Our Editor adds:

The name Mohammed means ‘Praiseworthy’ and occurs four times in the Holy Quran.

The Holy Book addresses Mohammed in second person, not by his name but by appellations such as Prophet, Messenger, Servant of God (Abd), Announcer (Bashir), Warner (Nathir), Reminder (Mudhakkir), Witness (Shahid), Bearer of Good Tidings (Mubashshir), One Who Calls (unto God) and the light-giving lamp (Siraj Munir).

Mohammed is sometimes addressed by designations deriving from his state at the time of the address; thus, he is referred to as the Enwrapped (Al Muzzammil) in Quran and the shrouded (Al Muddaththir) in Holy Quran.

According to Islamic teachings, believers are not to distinguish between the messengers of God and are to believe in all of them (Surah).

God has caused some messengers to excel above others and in Surah.
