National is the most preferred Party of the Indian community in Auckland according to a snap poll held over the weekend.
The Party received 50.5% rating at the poll held as a part of the ‘Kiwi Indian Conclave’ follow-up meeting held on Friday, September 12 at the Manukau Indian Association (MIA) Hall in Papatoetoe. Labour was a distant second with 25.8% rating, followed by New Zealand First at 18.27%. ACT, Green and Maori Parties received less than the legal threshold, while the Internet Mana and Conservative Party did not receive any rating.
About 120 people representing a cross-section of the community attended the meeting organised by MIA with the support of the New Zealand Indian Central Association but only 93 exercised their choice, indicating that almost 22.5% were either undecided or may not vote on the Election Day on September 20, 2014.
Prior to the poll, Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, Dr Parmjeet Parmar (National), Priyanca Radhakrishnan, Sunny Kaushal (Labour) Mahesh Bindra and Anne Degia-Pala (New Zealand First) explained the policies of their respective Parties. ACT, Green, Maori, Internet Mana and Conservative Parties were not represented at the meeting.
