New Supermarket offers quality, variety

A new Supermarket in Botany South is expected to attract a large number of customers from various parts of the Greater Auckland region with its extensive range of products to cater to varied tastes and preferences of people.

Moshims Discount House has opened its doors on June 8, 2012, at 46 Ormiston Road in Botany Junction, which incorporates a number of facilities including banks, restaurants, other retailers and commercial undertakings in one of the fastest developing areas of the mega city,.

Strategic location

The new Supermarket is located opposite the ‘The Pride,’ housing the Lion Brewery, which moved from its Central Auckland site to create ‘the largest ever greenfield brewery and beverage manufacturing development in Australasia.’

With ample free car park facility, Moshims Discount House Botany South would spell a new chapter in shopping not only for the Indian community but also for other ethnic groups. The store has a complement of six persons to serve customers from 8 am to 7 pm on all days of the week.

The area, with exciting developments including education, health and other facilities, is expected to grow further as a residential and commercial district of greater significance than it is now.

Arvin Shankar, who owns the new Supermarket, said that the need for a retail store of this size was becoming pronounced with the changing demography of the Auckland metropolis.

Changing Demography

“Over the years, thousands of people have moved to areas such as Dannemora, Flatbush and Botany, apart from the old localities such as Manukau, Otara and Papatoetoe. All of them have their daily, weekly and occasional shopping needs and therefore there was a need for a supermarket that would stock most of the items required for their use.

“Following a market survey, we looked around for a suitable location to establish our supermarket and considered the new site the best,” he said.

Occupying 42

5 Sq meters, the supermarket is one of the largest in the Moshims chain. Although constructed some time ago, the new retail store is the first occupant. It still breathes freshness and carefully arranged shelves offer convenience and comfort to shoppers.

“Shopping habits of people are changing. The cost of living has been on the rise over the past few years and many items of everyday use are costlier than before and residents are being forced to either buy less or give up buying some products. The cost of even vegetables and fruits are becoming dearer. But we would continue to make a difference and help customers,” Mr Shankar said.

While Moshims Discount House throughout the country is known to offer products of quality at lower prices, the new supermarket hopes to do more to attract and retain customers.

Attractive prices

“Apart from keeping the prices of items lower than many others, we will have specials from time to time. These could be weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Shoppers can be assured of products that are of proven quality, and items that are fresh and usable,” Mr Shankar said.

He was not aware of the exact number of items that the new supermarket stocks and sells but more than 5000 of various products are available in this facility.

Wide range

These include fresh fruits and vegetables brought almost daily and stocked in large racks with appropriate cooling facility, fresh milk and dairy products, soft drinks, a wide variety of spices, groceries, packed and ready-to eat or ready-to-heat-and-eat foods, snacks, pickles (freshly made and bottled), rice, flour, toiletries, cosmetics, home appliances, idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses, Pooja items and much more.

“It is not ‘What we sell,’ How we sell’ and ‘How we price them’ that is important in the success of a supermarket but in the style of service that we offer to customers. Over the years, we have come to know the names and needs of people who visit us regularly. Such knowledge helps us to stock the items they need. Moshims Discount House Botany South will do more to achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction,” Mr Shankar said.

He acknowledged the support and assistance rendered by his wife Anjali over the years in running similar businesses elsewhere in Auckland (see separate story in this Special Report).
