Painless dental injection

Staff Reporter

A New computerised injection machine installed at an Auckland clinic promises greater efficiency, better treatment and greater dental care.

The Otahuhu Dental Care has recently acquired the Wand Computer Guided Anesthesia System manufactured by STA Inc that is used to give painless injections.

Dr Rajeev Nagpal of the practice said that The Wand Computer Guided Anesthesia System has been approved by the Federal Drug Administration in US and that it can be used to give painless injections.

Dr Rajeev has also acquired a soft tissue Laser BIOLASE (made in USA) to do Gum Treatment. Sensitive teeth are a common complaint, mainly in the winter.

Sometimes this is a relatively easy problem to solve.

Studies show that one in four people suffer from sensitive teeth; however, this is greater in the 25-45 age group and in women.

The vulnerable

People most likely to suffer from this marginal tooth sensitivity are those who over- enthusiastically brush their teeth, consume more than usual amounts of wine or citrus drinks, have had treatment for gum disease or who have special medical problems like bulimia.

Apart from sensitive teeth, proper dental care is essential not only to maintain good dental health but also the general wellbeing.

Studies have shown that dental care obtained through a qualified dentist improves the overall health of the individual.

Since its establishment in 2001 (taken over from another firm of the same name set up 82 years ago), Otahuhu Dental Care provides quality dentistry at competitive prices.

Specialist services

As well as educating patients on better daily oral hygiene to be followed, Otahuhu Dental Care provides a range of services including fillings, extractions, dentures, root canals, crown and bridge and bleaching.

Says Dr Rajeev: “We attach great importance to ‘informed consent,’ so the patients are given all the options with the risks involved, enabling them to choose what suits them. We have run a number of specials on dental treatment for the past five years.

“These help our patients to avoid expensive dental treatment. Patients are booked with 45-minute appointments so as not to give them a ‘rushed feeling,” he said,

He listens to patients’ problems before presenting the treatment options.

Dr Rajeev said that bad breath was a common factor in most patients, taking away the confidence of effective communication.

He advised people to visit their dentist or periodontist regularly.
