Philosophy Conference call for papers

Organisers of the first international conference on ‘Body, Mind & Self’ have called for papers from scholars, academics and others involved in the related fields.

Victoria University of Wellington and the Society for Philosophy and Culture (formerly known as the Society for Global Philosophy) are hosting the Conference in Wellington from July 24 to 26, 2015.

Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown will be among the Guests of Honour at the inaugural session on July 24.

Philosophy Conference call- Mind Body and SelfVictoria University Professor of Philosophy and Society Vice-President Professor Jaysankar Lal Shaw invited scholars from different fields to present their works.

“They would range from Philosophy and Sciences to Economics, Anthropology and Religious Studies. The Conference will assemble as many points of view as possible,” he said.

According to Professor Shaw, through such conferences, the Society aims to illustrate the inter-relation between the different areas of expertise, thereby promoting a more encompassing vision of the topics discussed.

The Conference is open and free for all, including Vegetarian lunches and dinners.

Professor Shaw said that those keen on presenting their papers should confirm with their papers or abstracts on or before June 28, 2015.

“The final papers will be subject to editorial and peer-review prior to publication as a volume, a copy of which will be given to each participant,” he said.

The Society for Philosophy & Culture is dedicated to promoting interest in philosophy and other related disciplines. It encourages cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary debate and discussion through its branches at the Victoria University of Wellington and McMaster University of Canada.

Dr Shaw said that the Society uses the proceeds of sales of its book, ‘Body, Mind & Self’ to award scholarships valued at $500 each to students pursuing their masters in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Psychology.

“These students should have either submitted their thesis recently (within six months of the deadline) or nearing completion of their dissertation,” Professor Shaw said.
