Programme to raise Diabetes awareness

Aucklanders would have an opportunity to learn more about Diabetes at a special programme scheduled to be held on November 17, 2013.

Organised by Ella Kumar, who was re-elected to the Puketapapa Local Board at the local election held last month, is organising the event at Keith Hay Park in Mt Roskill.

“Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects people of South Asian origin. Many health promoting groups see the forthcoming programme as an opportunity to raise awareness, and educate people on how to prevent and deal with the disease,” Ms Kumar said.

She said that while the world observes November 14 as ‘Diabetes Awareness Day,’ the event in Mt Roskill will be a part of on-going programme to enable New Zealanders to deal with the deadly disease as better-informed persons.

“We will commence the day with ‘Bolly Pump’ at 9 am, followed by ‘Walk the Laps for Diabetes Awareness’(10 am), Zumba (11 am) and healthy snacks (12 pm).

Further information can be obtained from her on (09) 6290660 or 021-0477642.
