One of the most celebrated singers of Qwwali and Sufi music, apart from other forms of music, is scheduled to perform in Auckland next weekend.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, renowned as ‘a living legend in the lineage of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan,’ will perform at

Aaria Events Limited is organising the event on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Victory Convention Centre, 98 Beaumont Street, Freeman’s Bay, Auckland. The Ustad will commence his programme at 730 pm accompanied by a live orchestra.

Aaria Events Limited Director Dinesh Raniga said that the upcoming event is a part of Rahat’s ‘Tribute Tour 2017,’ and promises to be the best show of the year in New Zealand.

Worthy successor

“As the successor of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and as an artiste who has pledged to carry on his uncle’s rich musical legacy, Rahat is known to set the tone of his shows by starting with Nusrat’s Sufi qawwali ‘Allah Hoo.’ But the Auckland programme could be different since Rahat plays according to the mood of the audience,” he said.

Mr Raniga said that Rahat keeps Indian-Pakistani classical base at the core of his music, which is enjoyed by Westerners as much as the people of the Indian Sub-Continent. Variety also plays a major role in Rahat’s concerts as one gets to relish a mix of qawwalis, ghazals, Hindi film songs and the great Sufi poet Bulleh Shah’s poetry,” he said.

Rahat believes that variety in his concert caters to an audience across age groups. Thanks to his chartbuster Hindi film songs, youngsters also love his music.

Peace pact

Rahat is the artiste responsible to build a bridge between India and Pakistan through music. He has always acknowledged receiving as much love from India for his music as much as he does from Pakistan.

Since his chance entry into Bollywood through Pooja Bhatt’s film ‘Paap,’ he has been the quintessential voice of melody in Hindi films.

Rahat is also the brand ambassador of the peace initiative ‘Aman Ki Asha’, a joint campaign by the two leading media houses in India and Pakistan – The Times of India and The Jang Group.

As a part of this campaign, Rahat collaborated with Shankar Mahadevan on a theme track, written by Gulzar and composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (born on 1974 in Faisalabad, Pakistan, the son of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s brother and accompanist and grandson of another legendary qawwali master, Fateh Ali Khan) is the scion of a family whose name has become synonymous with South Asian musical tradition ten centuries old which has only in recent years captured the imagination of listeners in the West.

A globetrotter

His formal training with his uncle began at the age of seven & he performed very first time at the age of nine at the death anniversary of his grandfather.
