Sri Om Incorporated in Auckland will mark its Fifth Anniversary later this month with a series of programmes including a Talent Night.
Sriom Adi Sakthiyendra Swamiji, Founder of the Sriom Adi Sakthi Ashram in Avalur Village in Tamil Nadu, India arrived in Auckland on June 24 ahead of the festivities and will be in the country until August 1, 2011.
Sri Om Vice-President Arunachalam Ramamoorthy said that the visiting leader has been giving discourses on religion, the art of living and other topics of human interest at a number of centres in Auckland.
“Adi Sakthiyendra will be present at the Guru Poornima observance, due to begin at 10 am on July 16 at the Mt Roskill Intermediate School Hall on Denbeigh Avenue, followed by ‘Sri Om Monthly Class’ the next day (July 17) at 930 am at the Wesley Community Centre on Sandringham Road,” he said.
Mr Ramamoorthy said the Organisation will celebrate its Fifth Anniversary on July 30 at the Mt Roskill Intermediate School auditorium, with ‘Talent Night 2011,’ incorporating dance, drama and music.
Tickets, priced at $10 per person, are on sale, with proceeds going to charity.
Established in 2006, Sri Om aims to promote community and social welfare, provide food, shelter and education to the needy and uplift the lot of destitute children.
“As well as publishing a newsletter (‘Devi’s Voice’), Sri Om conducts monthly prayers for World Peace, free devotional and moral classes for children and Autism Support Group meetings for parents of children afflicted by Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) with the support of the Education and Health Ministries.
“We are also planning to construct a Temple for Sri Om Devi,” Mr Ramamoorthy said.
He said these activities were in line with the ideals and works of Adi Sakthiyendra in India and overseas. The Ashram in India provides free boarding, lodging and education to poor children and to the old and physically challenged persons.
