Rest Home for community elders coming

The long cherished desire of the South Asian communities in general and that of the Indian segment in particular, became a reality last fortnight, with an agreement to open a special wing at an Auckland Rest Home

Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust (BSCT) Chairman Jeet Suchdev signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dr Dwayne Crombie, Managing Director of Bupa Care Services, which owns the David Lange Care Home in the South Auckland suburb of Mangere (East).

The Memorandum, signed on November 29, provides for a separate wing for elderly people of South Asian origin.

“It would be culturally appropriate for our people and the move would meet the needs of our community. The new wing, called, ‘Aashirwad’ (Blessing), will be the first Rest Home of our Trust for the elderly,” Mr Suchdev said.

Indian Newslink has always supported the BSCT initiative, in view of the ageing Indian population in need of Rest Homes in which our elders feel at ease with their cultural and traditional values respected and fostered.

Vital experience

The MoU would also enable the Trust to establish a long-term relationship with Bupa Services to promote the welfare of the elderly.

The David Lange Care Home allows residents to have their rooms designed to suit their taste, style and need, while its other common facilities include a lounge, dining room, and outdoor area plant boxes to grow vegetables.

Mr Suchdev appealed to the community to approach him for those in need of the Rest Home facility.

Further information and details of the new facility can be obtained from Jeet Suchdev on (09) 4430579 or 021-2221020. Email: jeet@xtra.co.nz
