Saint Mother Teresa in pictures expo

Staff Reporter –

The pictures of Saint Mother Teresa and her charities collected by Gautam Lewis, who grew up under her care in Calcutta (now Kolkata) will be displayed at two exhibitions in Auckland later this month.

Mr Gautam is a Guest of Honour at the Ninth Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards scheduled to be held at Sky City Convention Centre on Monday, November 28, 2016 and his collection of rare photographs will be on display at a stall as a part of the exhibition of sponsors.

The exhibition will be open from 5 pm and is restricted to invitees.

Called, ‘Memories of Mother Teresa,’ Mr Lewis has carefully chosen the pictures that would not only depict the kindness of the Saint Mother but also demonstrate the great work done by her charities.

Commemorating Canonisation

“I am bringing the exhibition of photographs specially to mark her canonisation of Mother Teresa by Pope Francis on September 4, 2016. I went through an emotional journey selecting these pictures and I am now keen the world to have a similar experience,” Mr Lewis said.

Born in Kolkata in 1977, three years old Gautam was abandoned by his family after contracting polio and spent five years at Mother Theresa’s Missionaries of Charity during which time he underwent two years of operations at the Rehabilitation Centres for Children just outside the city.

Raised by Mother Teresa’s Missionaries in Kolkata, his life might have remained one of grinding poverty had he not been adopted at the age of seven and taken to live in

privilege and comfort in Britain.

Graceful depiction

The exhibition will depict Mother Teresa’s work with the dying and the destitute, and with homeless children including portraits of abandoned children living in the care

of the Missionary of Charities Kolkata Orphanage, a place where Gautam once called his ‘home’.

Regent College

The exhibition will move to Regent College, 520 Queen Street, Auckland Central for a formal inauguration on November 29 and for public view from November 30 to December 7, 2016. Details can be obtained from Prince Kumar on 021-0322115.
