Music lovers of Auckland are in for a treat with popular Hindi film music director Pritam Chakraborty performing live at the Logan Campbell Centre on March 11, 2016.

‘Pritam Live in Concert,’ commencing at 8 pm, promises an entertaining evening with the man behind the music of more than 100 Hindi films.

It is the first time the Kolkata born musician will be performing in New Zealand.

The Artiste

A sound engineering graduate from FTII Pune, Pritam started his journey in show business by creating jingles for advertisements and music for television serials.

He formed a musical combine with Jeet Ganguli (a successful music director in his own right). Their big break came with the 2002 Yash Raj film ‘Mere Yaar Ke Shaadi Hain.’

The youthful romantic entertainer went to become a box office success; aided immensely by its peppy and popular music.

Soon the duo split, with Pritam starting a successful solo music career with another Yash Raj Film, ‘Dhoom.’ The action-entertainer became a blockbuster, with its title track ‘Dhoom Machale’ acquiring cult status.

Music Style

The start of this millennium saw Hindi films evolve to better reflect the mood of the times.

Modern storylines with a younger set of actors were doing well at the ticket window. Pritam’s style of music aided this transition.

He composed music which was a blend of conventional melody and new age beats.

Versatility of Pritam was on display in music of films like ‘Gangster,’ ‘Jab We Met’ and ‘Life in a Metro.’

His compositions cover a wide spectrum of the music world. In the last few years, his music score for the Ranbir Kapoor starrers ‘Barfi’ and ‘Yeh Jawani Hain Deewani’ and last year’s Shahrukh Khan mega hit ‘Dilwale,’ have proved very popular.

Pritam is a winner of two Filmfare and three Star Screen Awards.

The Concerts

The 45-year-old, long haired musician has performed live shows across the globe.

The hallmark of ‘Pritam Live’ has been programmes that have provided evidence of his power of music.

New Zealanders will love to clap and dance at his forthcoming show.

Performing with Pritam will be Antara (‘Man Mein Motion Jaage’), Aditi (‘Dhoom Machale’), Nakash (Selfie Le le Re), and Sreerama (‘Subhan Allah’). This powerhouse of talents will add more magic to an evening already brimming with entertainment.
