Show raises money for St John

A music show organised by the Auckland based UA International raised $4111 for St John to fund its Ambulance service.

Umesh Sharma, who presented the programme at Dorothy Winstone Centre (Auckland Girls Grammar School) on August 3, handed over a cheque to St John General Manager (Northern Region) Gary Salmon in the presence of Fundraising Coordinator Renee Buhagiar and other staff at a brief ceremony held later.

The programme, called, ‘Rock On,’ brought together a number of local artistes belting our popular songs from Hindi films.

Despite its delayed start, the singers regaled the audience, with calls for encore.

Among the songs that appealed to them were ‘Tere Bin Nahin Lagda Dil Mera’ performed by Rachit Bhatia, ‘Dum Maro Dum’ by Arpita Chanda and ‘Rock On!’ by Avish Sharma. Bhavana Suroshi, Ritika Shah and Shirley Setia also rendered several memorable numbers.

The second part of the programme was equally entertaining.

‘Teri Deewani’ by Kanik Mongia and ‘Chand Mera Dil’ (part rendition by Avish as a tribute to Mohammed Rafi).

His rendition of ‘Bheegi Bheegi Si Hai Raatein’ drew a loud applause.
