Six Covid-19 new cases and one death in New Zealand

New Zealand has recorded six new cases of Covid-19 taking the total number of cases from the first case reported on February 28, 2020 to a total of 1485.

There was one death- of a Rosewood Rest Home Resident in his 80s.

A Health Ministry statement said that of the six new cases, two are listed as confirmed and four cases as probable. The total number includes confirmed and probable cases.

The Statement said that five of the new cases have links to a known source.

“The source of the of the one new case is under investigation,” the Statement said.

The Ministry said that 1263 people have recovered from Covid-19, accounting for 85% of the total cases recorded since the Coronavirus records began.

The person who died today (May 2) has been named as George Hollings.

His family described him as “A real Kiwi bloke, a rough diamond, who loved his deer stalking.”

The Health Ministry statement said that Mr Hollings was considered to be a probable case of Covid-19, and had underlying health conditions.

Three clusters closed

“There are still 16 significant clusters in the country, three of which are now considered to be closed as there is no longer any apparent transmission of the virus in those groups. A Covid-19 cluster is considered be closed after a total of 28 consecutive days – or two incubation periods for the virus – since its most recent report date of a reported case,” the Ministry said.

The three closed clusters are the Wellington Wedding cluster (closed on April 25) and the two clusters linked to group travel to the United States, one in Wellington and the other in Auckland, closed today (May 2).
