Small businesses promised help

Venkat Raman –

Small businesses constitute the single largest segment of the economy and hence their progress is critical to the growth of the economy, National List MP for Epsom Paul Goldsmith said.

“The friendly policies of our government have enabled small businesses to weather through the Global Financial Crisis and other challenges in recent years. We consider their contributions as significant to New Zealand’s progress.”

Mr Goldsmith was speaking at the opening of the Kodak Express New Market Store at its new location at 292 Broadway on July 8, 2015. The Store incorporates Graphic Designing and Digital Printing Solutions facility to its existing services.

Digital Solutions

Narendra Bedekar, Director of Creative Eye and Indian Newslink photographer for more than 12 years, is the Creative Director of the new division at the New Market Kodak store.

Acknowledging the contributions of the Indian businesses to the progress and development of the economy, Mr Goldsmith said that the government is keen to ensure that they remain successful and progressive.

Earlier, Wenceslaus Anthony, who a partner of the Store with Krish Damodara, said in his welcome address that graphic designing and digital solutions will add value to the products and services provided by the Kodak store.

“Contrary to popular belief, film processing and printing continues to grow and attract increasing clientele despite the immense popularity of digital photography. We are confident that this Store will continuously provide value-added services and the additional facility will have a positive impact,” he said.

Rising Professionals

Mr Anthony said that Indian businesses in New Zealand have become highly professional, with many of them excelling in their products and services.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities. They employ thousands of local people and invest millions of dollars in our region. They are the family firms, the local shops, and the tradespeople we all rely on for our daily needs. Running a small business is tough at the best of times and is especially hard in a recession. Rising costs and declining incomes mean that in order to survive, many businesses face the prospect of cutting costs, taking out a second or third mortgage on the family home, or laying off good employees,” he added.

A number of local businesses and members of the National Party attended the event.
