Soccer deserves constant support

Soccer is one of the most popular games played in many countries of the world and hence deserves corporate patronage and public support, says a senior businessman.

According to Jack Dube, Chief Executive of The Car Clearance Centre based in Otahuhu (Saleyards Road) Auckland, besides bringing together people, the game also helps people to improve their physical and mental fitness.

“It is heartening to note that an increasing number of our youngsters are evincing interest in soccer. Elders, parents, clubs and associations should encourage them to play professional soccer,” he said.

The Car Clearance Centre is the Sponsor of the ‘Best Veteran over 35 Years Player of the Year’ Category of the Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards 2013.

“I take much pride in supporting this venture as I believe in promoting sporting activities among the members of our community. I also believe that good sports lead to good health, which in turn leads to good human development,” he said.

Despite his business and social commitments, Mr Dube continues to play soccer and runs a Veterans Soccer Club in Auckland.

“I guess I will always be a soccer enthusiast and my association with the game dates back to my formative years in my native Fiji, where I was involved with ‘Combined Brothers,’ a renowned club in Suva. It is a matter of pride that the Club has produced a number of great soccer players,” he said.
