Sociologist to address Indian Diaspora

Hamiltonians and residents of the neighbouring regions including Auckland can expect an evening of informative and illuminating experience as a visiting academic deliberates on social and other issues.

Professor Parmatma Saran, Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the City University of New York will address the members and guests of the Waikato Chapter of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) and the Indianz Global Women & Family Group on July 10.

The programme will be held from 630 pm to 730 pm at the Celebrating Age Centre, 30 Victoria Street.

Professor Parmatma is a renowned pedagogue on race, ethnicity, minority groups and issues concerning the Indian Diaspora.

He has written books on Indian migration to the US and issues of cultural identity and assimilation of the community in the American society.

Organisers of the Programme said people of Indian Origin would find it useful to interact with him and other members of the community on relevant issues.
