Sound experience under the siren

Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi –

I had an opportunity recently to accompany Inspector Alan Shearer of the Counties Manukau Police District in his Police Car.

This experience enabled me to witness first-hand the fantastic service that the New Zealand Police, New Zealand Fire Service, and other emergency services provide to New Zealanders every day.

Under our National-led Government, crime rates are down and Police are being supported to provide more effective policing and crime prevention.

Budget 2015 is investing $164 million over four years in operating funding to help the Police carry on their good work.

Previously, we put 600 extra police officers on New Zealand streets to ensure the safety and security of our citizens; 300 of them were in Manukau.

These are positive and pragmatic steps towards taking care of present and future New Zealanders.

Police should be commended on their excellent work in the community, which is seeing real results with 22% drop in recorded crimes over the past five years.

Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi has been a Member of Parliament on National List since November 2008. He is the Chairman of Law & Order Select Committee of Parliament and takes abiding interest in all matters concerning New Zealanders in general and those of South Asian origin in particular.
