Special Programmes promote social welfare

Following are some programmes of the Fatimah Foundation based in South Auckland, aimed at serving the Muslim community.

‘PantryPak Halal Food Bank Services South Auckland’ relies on 100% support from the Muslim community to ensure that the integrity of Halal Food rating is protected.

However, the service is available to all those meeting the criteria.

The ‘PantryPak’ helps low or no income families by allowing them to save on their grocery budget and re-distribute the savings to meet other expenses. Families are expected to seek budgeting advice after three visits.

The Foundation has long and short-term users of this service.

Auckland accounts for the largest Muslim population, representing people from many parts of the world, making the ‘PantryPak Halal’ a significant service.

It carries the Islamic identity that offers support to other low-income families and new settlers.

‘FreeShop’ is a service that offers low or no-income families with recycled quality clothing and household items.

The Foundation encourages wealthier families to consider giving ‘Zakat’ during the year, either as cash or food items.

‘ConvertConnect’ provides support services to women and their families who have converted to Islam.

‘Outreach Services’ have provided support and advice to women from Whangarei, Hastings, and Christchurch.

The Foundation is experiencing an increased number of women contacting the officials through its website, sponsored by MASStragety Limited.

The Social Development Ministry and the Auckland Council support the activities and programmes of the Foundation.

The team at the Foundation has a community support worker, office administrator, counsellor and skilled volunteers who have completed or are in the process of completing Certificates in Community Service and Training in Trauma and Abuse.
