Sports Awards to celebrate high achievers

Indian Newslink is happy to announce the launch of a series of Awards to recognise and applaud high achievers in various aspects of sports.

The Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards 2012 is perhaps the first of its type in the country dedicated to sportsmen and sportswomen of Indian origin.

Managing Director and Publisher Ravin Lal, who is managing the new initiative, said that it was time to honour high achievers in sports representing the Indian community in New Zealand.

“For more than 12 years, Indian Newslink has been reporting the achievements of our sports personalities in a number of fields, including Soccer, Cricket, Tennis, Netball, Hockey, Golf, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Boxing and Kabaddi. While some of them have risen to the national level playing for the country in international matches and tournaments, there is no avenue to celebrate the achievements of many others as a community.

“In instituting the Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards, we hope to fill the void in this area. These Sports Awards will recognise and reward not only established players and veterans but also young aspirants,” he said.

The Categories

Mr Lal said the Awards Scheme would account for 12 categories including Best Veterans Soccer Player, Best Senior Division Soccer Player, Best Under 19 Soccer Player, Best Netball Player, Best Hockey Player (Male and Female), Best Rugby League Player, Best Rugby Union Player, Best Golfer, Best Kabaddi Player, Best Cricket Player and Best Under 21 Cricket Player.

The winners in the categories would qualify for the ‘Supreme Sportsman of the Year’ and ‘Supreme Sportswoman of the Year’ Awards.

“Entries would be open from February 15 to April 8, 2012. Details of obtaining entry forms and the email address to which completed forms should be sent and other information will appear in our February 15, 2012 issue.

“A panel of judges, independent of Indian Newslink will evaluate the entries, select the finalists and winners and announce their names at the Awards Presentation and Dinner Night to be held at the ASB Stadium, Kohimarama, Auckland on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 630 pm. The decision of the judges would be final and no correspondence will be entertained in this connection. Entries should not be sent to Indian Newslink,” Mr Lal said.

He said sponsorship was available in a number of categories.

Sponsorship Opportunity

“We would like to invite commercial organisations and others with a passion for sports to avail of the sponsorship opportunities and enhance their image in the market. The Indian community is one of the most significant segments of the economy and such Awards programmes accrue considerable benefits to sponsoring organisations,” Mr Lal said.
