Success rewards, humility elevates

While wealth and wellbeing invariably follow who people work hard doing the right thing with the right people at the right time, their status in the society becomes elevated if they remain humble and helpful.

Arrogance of opulence leads people to insolation and eventual oblivion.

These were the words that resounded the precincts of the offices of Corban Revell Lawyers in Henderson recently at a gathering organised by the firm’s Managing Partner Lawrence Ponniah to felicitate Wenceslaus Anthony, a businessman based in West Auckland for his contributions to the business community over the years.

As well as being the first person of Indian origin to chair the India New Zealand Business Council (INZBC) for almost four years, Mr Anthony is also a director on the board of Bank of Baroda New Zealand Limited (Indian Newslink, June 15, 2012).

He is also the Chairman of the Mother Teresa Interfaith Committee, which organises an annual lecture meeting with the participation of leaders of almost all major religious faiths in Auckland.

Mr Ponniah said that his business acumen and leadership qualities had enabled INZBC to become a powerful body, bringing together all New Zealand businesses with trade and commerce links with India.

“Since he became the Chairman, the Council has risen to become a powerful force, advising governments and providing vital partnership for business-to-business contacts with commercial organisations in the two countries. Mr Anthony has also been connected with a number of charitable institutions and Church activities, including programmes for youth,” he said.

A Bank of Baroda Managing Director Navin Upreti and INZBC executive committee member Bhav Dhillon paid tributes to Mr Anthony.

Among the guests present were Unitec Chief Executive Dr Rick Ede, C P Group Limited Chairman Charles Pandey, BNZ Partners Central Auckland Senior Partner Ansuya Naidoo, Triangle TV Chief Executive Jim Blackman, Magsons Hardware (Mega Mitre 10 Mega) Chairman Vinod Kumar, Catholic Caring Foundation General Manager Clare Wade and Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin National President Alkesh Sharma.
