Supermarkets tighten security

Mike Booker

Mike BookerSupermarkets are rolling out extra security to deal with the threat to contaminate infant formula with 1080 poison.

New World and Pak N Save stores will have ‘Infant Formula Milk Monitors,’ visually monitoring the product on shelves.

Additional security including CCTV and security during transit to stores is in place at Countdown Distribution Centres.

Acting Managing Director Steve Donohue said that some of the security measures may cause slight delays for customers to purchase infant formula.

All customers entering New World, Pak N Save and Four Square stores owned by Foodstuffs will find heightened security measures.

As well as the ‘Infant Formula Milk Monitors,’ New World and Pak N Save stores will have signage-advising customers of the threat and continuous CCTV monitoring.

Infant Formula has been moved toward the checkout in smaller New Worlds or Four Square stores.
