Talent of the Fortnight

In an age wherein many youngsters are accused of being delinquent and going astray, it is indeed a pleasure to hear about teenagers achieving success in not only their school, community and the country, but also internationally. One such is our Talent of the fortnight, Anusha Ahluwalia.

This youngster, who is yet to step into teenage, was the sole Indian in the Creative Cyber Citizens Group (CCG) that won the top prize at the Future Problem Solving Programme held at the University of Wisconsin, US last fortnight.

As she mentioned during the photo-shoot, her Project was one of a kind.

“It is about making the Internet safer for children, the youth, in fact anyone who believes in clean surfing. I plan to write about the Project in a future issue of Indian Newslink, she said.

Her performance at the international competition appeased not only her peers and parents but also the Principal and Staff of the Mission Heights Junior College (see separate article under Educationlink in this issue).

More than 2000 contestants representing Australia, Britain, Canada, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore and the US, participated in the four-day contest.

It was a double victory for the one-year old School as its Trees are Nature’s Educators team also won special recognition.

When she joined the new institution last year, little did Anusha know that there was history in the making.

“Our Principal Veena Vohra motivated me to form a team to analyse ‘Cyber Safety’ and participate in the Future Problem Solving Programme. The Project was born after several brainstorming sessions, intense research and meetings with Ms Vohra.

“I am happy that we chose the topic,” she said.

Anusha belongs to a family of loving people (her mother Anita and father Paramvir, who pursue their respective professions in Sales and Marketing and her young sister Ananya), who hold traditional and moral values high.

“They have always encouraged me to pursue scholastic and extra-curricular activities. I hope to study medicine and establish my career as a doctor,” she said.
