Talent of the Fortnight

At a local competition held a few years ago, someone suggested that she should enter an exciting Bikini Contest, win the title and go overseas to participate in an international competition.

With her positive outlook, she entered the competition in 2008 and was crowned ‘Miss Bikini International New Zealand.’ The title made her eligible to compete at the Miss Bikini International competition held in China.

“I was thrilled to be a Finalist and win the ‘Best National Costume’ category. The global contest provided me a good opportunity to interact with people of varied nationalities and cultural backgrounds,” says Urisha Sing, our Talent of the Fortnight.

Encouraged by her success, she participated in several ensuing beauty pageants and competitions. She won the ‘Best Swimwear’ category and the First Runner-Up title at the Miss New Zealand Asia Pacific Contest.

She was also the First Runner-Up in the Miss Counties Beauty Contest, ‘Best Evening Wear’ and Miss Auckland Universe.

Her passion for modelling has taken her through a number of shows and training programmes. But she considers the TV Presenters Course that she completed as significant in her life and career.

Born in Durban, South Africa, Urisha migrated to New Zealand with her family when she just two years old.

“I am part of an extremely close-knit family, comprising my parents, older brother and of course ‘JaeDee,’ our family baby (a Maltese-Chihuahua puppy),” she said.

Two years ago she obtained her Bachelor of Business degree (with HR Management as the major subject) from AUT University, qualifying her for a job at a leading recruitment company in Auckland.

But her heart is in Event Management and Show Business.

“I am in the process of establishing ‘Black Diamond Events,’ my own Event Management Company to produce, organise and manage corporate events, official gatherings, parties, beauty pageants and so on.

My ambition is to create a company that will give young girls an opportunity to grow into beautiful, strong and self-confident young women,” she said.
