Teenage dreams engages in vocational detours

Young minds reach for the stars with the urge to do well in a number of areas, diverse and far from each other. But the interest that the human mind and heart generate during those impressionable years must have family support and blessings to move forward.

Sharon Verma, our Model of the Fortnight was keen to become an ‘Aishwarya Rai,’ and woo Hritik Roshan but became diffident because her Hindi was no good. No one told her perhaps that anything goes in the film world (‘saab chalta hai’) and that there was no room for perfection in the celluloid world.

Shifting her attention to dancing and singing, she honed her talent to become a welcome entertainment at parties and other events.

The Karate bug also bit her, enrolled at a Taekwondo class, participated in a number of competitions and earned at least two gold medals and silver in sparring.

Sharon also tried her hand at paintings but all her hobbies had to be packed up as she entered NCEA Level 1 last year.

“I want to study medicine after school but I know that even the entry examination would be tough. However, I am studying hard and hope to succeed with the support of my family and friends,” she said.

Beauty Pageants

Sharon is also keen to participate in beauty pageants “to improve self-confidence and more importantly, raise funds for the poor and the needy.’

She was a contestant at the recently held Miss South Auckland Competition, at which she was crowned ‘Miss Teen India South Auckland,’ and won prizes in the charity, catwalk and speaker segments.

Sharron said that she will be competing in the Miss Teen New Zealand Competition to be held on July 5. “I look forward to the competition, as I enjoy meeting people and interacting with them,” she said.
