A Teenager from Auckland has brought his family, school, friends, peers and relatives proud by his outstanding performance at the Junior Swimming Championship events held earlier in the year.

We are late to carry the news but Satish Makam informed us recently that his son Abhinav won two Gold, two Silver and and three Bronze medals at the events held at Sir Owen Glen National Aquatic Centre in Auckland from February 19 to February 21.

The Year 9 student at King’s College also earned Gold medals at the relay matches in which he participated.

With the belief that good news must be shared all the time and that the achievements of our children should be celebrated with more than 100,000 readers, we have pleasure in publishing this report.

Consistent winner

“Abhinav entered 11 individual events and was chosen for two Regional Relays representing Auckland. He finished with medals in individual events and Golds in both the relays. He set personal bests in every race, and finished fifth and sixth in the events in which he did not win any medals,” Mr Satish said.

Abhinav topped 12-year-old Boys’ category with maximum medals.

The Results

His results were: First Position in 50 metres, 100 metres Butterfly; 50 metres Breast stroke; 200 meters Free Style Regional Relay (Team Event); 200 metres Individual Medley Regional Relay (Team Event); Second Position in 200 metres Individual Medley; 100 metres Breast Stroke; Third Position in 50 metres Freestyle; 100 metres free style and 200 metres Breast Stroke; Fifth Position in 400 metres Freestyle; 100 metres Breast Stroke; and Sixth Position in 50 metres Back Stroke.

“Abhinav started swimming competitively in 2014, though he has been swimming since he was thee years old. He is passionate about his swimming and trains five to six times every week.

“Other than swimming Abhinav is a keen musician and plays both Drums and Piano and is part of school choirs and bands,” Mr Satish said.
