The best means of community help comes from within

Wenceslaus Anthony – Indian Newslink launches- Wenceslaus Anthony Web

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Human beings are frail on the face of calamity.

Death is the only certainty in an uncertain world.

The giving hand of humans has the gift of God.

It is in the worst of times that we come together as the children of God, as a community, as a family and as individuals, giving each other love, solidarity, goodwill, love and money.

Money; nothing gives more than this in times of need.

We live in a world that is a constant victim to disasters; those made by us humans and by Nature in her aforesaid fury.

Disasters of all sorts are on the rise and they are a threat to sustainable development and alleviation of poverty. Many find it difficult to recover from loss of assets, death of those near and dear or disability in the event of disaster.

Natural disasters

Natural disasters such as tornadoes, tsunami, droughts, hurricanes, typhoons, heat waves, epidemics, earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions and other forces of nature results in people dying, homes and towns destroyed and those who die unexpectedly in accidents. This leaves many of us disturbed and we want to respond humanly to support both emotionally and financially.

New initiative

The best means of community- Group Picture WebIndian Newslink has taken the initiative to mobilise resources within the community to support people in New Zealand and victims of natural disasters in India and Fiji.

Our logo symbolises the community lending a helping hand, giving generously into the receiving hands. It symbolises a world of give and take; of love and respect; of meaningful relationship and most importantly, rising to the occasion.

We rely on your support to meet the challenges posed by various developments; We do not wish untoward events to occur in India, Fiji and Sri Lanka; at the same time, we do not wish to remain passive lookers on when Nature or death strikes.

Visitors from UP

Last week, some members of the Uttar Pradesh Branch of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association visited New Zealand. On behalf of you, and as Chairman of the Indian Newslink Community Fund, I conveyed to them and to Indian High Commissioner Sanjiv Kohli that support to the Bundelkhand Drought Relief will be our first activity.

The drought and famine has brought untold grief to the people in Uttar Pradesh and many have committed suicide while hundreds of thousands of people are suffering. There is a dire need for drinking water.

If you want to reach out and help, there are several ways. If you are not in a position to donate, you may like to consider organising a fundraiser.

Indian Newslink will support your efforts through its columns. You can start small; you do not need a big group of people to make a difference.

Every dollar counts

Every dollar will help to rebuild communities hit by natural disasters.

Every drop will add the ocean. Nothing is too small or unimportant to be ignored. Every life is precious and every human being is valuable.

We all belong to one race- the human race.

Let us look after each other.

The Indian Newslink Community Fund is ours. It includes you and your family.

Wenceslaus Anthony is our life-long friend and a regular contributor of articles, news, features and everything that makes a difference in Indian Newslink. In that spirit, he initiated and established the Indian Newslink Community Fund. For more information, please write to editor@indiannewslink.co.nz
