Three months of Cricket for migrants

One of the most popular Cricket Tournaments, involving people of all ages, is scheduled to begin at the Auckland Domain on January 5, 2014.

Called ‘Indian Migrants Cricket Tournament,’ the three-month event, held on Sundays from 930 am to 2 pm until March 30, 2014, will witness the tenacity of players aged between 15 and 60 years.

Fifty-five matches will be played between 11 teams on ‘round robin basis’ over three months. These will be followed by two semi-finals and a final on March 30, 2014. The Tournament will feature Cricketers from various parts of India, including Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.

Past winners

Among the past winners are the New Zealand Telugu Association, Bombay Boys, Probasee Bengali, Tamil Christians, Tamil Muthtamil Sangam and AIS St Helens College.

The New Zealand Police and Relianz Forex Limited are supporting the event this year.

The Tournament was launched in 1997, following an initiative of the New Zealand Telugu Association to promote healthy competition among people of Indian origin in promoting quality Cricket.

All cricket enthusiasts are invited to watch and enjoy the matches.
