Tribute to music duo planned

Lovers of Tamil film songs can expect a scintillating journey back to the golden age of melody at a unique programme due to be held next week in Auckland.

Ravi Muthumanickam, known for his proficiency in music is presenting an evening devoted to Viswanathan Ramamurthy, celebrated as ‘Mellisai Mannargal’ (Kings of Light Music) in the Tamil film industry more than 30 years ago.

Ravi said that the programme, titled, ‘Nenjam Marappathillai’ would be a tribute to the innumerable hits composed by the musical duo from the 1950s to early 1970s.

Among the songs that Ravi and his group would perform include ‘Anbulla Manvizhiye’ (from ‘Kuzhanthaiyum Deivamum’), Anru Vanthathum Athe Nila (Periya Idathu Penn’), ‘Ayiram Nilave

Vaa’ (‘Adimai Penn’), ‘Chella Kiligalam Palliyile’ (Enga Mama’), ‘Chippi Irukkuthu Muthum’ (‘Varumayin Niram Sivappu’), ‘Kannanai Ninaikkatha Nalillaiye (‘Seervarisai’), ‘Namma Ooru Singari’ (‘Ninaithale Inikkum’), ‘Nilave Ennidam Nerungathe’ (‘Ramu’), ‘Ponnenna Poovenna Kanne’ (‘Aalaigal’) and ‘Viswanathan Velai Venum (‘Kadalikka Neramillai’).
