Triple musical treat for Lord Murugan

Lovers of music will experience a range of genres including Carnatic, Western and Hindustani, as well as a fusion of multiple styles at the third milestone of Musical Journey, due to be held from 530 pm at the Auckland Normal Intermediate School Hall (Poronui Street, Mt Eden) on Saturday, February 21, 2015.

Twenty-two local artistes will participate in the ‘Musical Journey: East Meets West’ supported by a live orchestra.

Our Artistes

They include Ahranni Sivakumar, Alexshana Sivarajah, Anusha Suresh Ramachandra, Ashshaya Pushparajah, Avinash Jeyashankar, Balu Mallela, Gaarunyaa Uthayakumar, Kaviya Balaraman, Meerah Yogakumar, Nandika Nelluri, Pavan Mani, Puja Nory, Rama Yogakumar, Roma Nory, Seran Ramanathan, Sivani Surendran, Subbarna Sivarajah, Synthia Shivakumar, Thulasi Kanadakumar, Varranthi Vignakumar, Vishalini Gunadas and Vishnupriya Mallela.

The music band would comprise Geerthana Nanthakumar, Divya Nanthakumar, Manisha Nanthakumar (all Keyboard and Violin), Madhan Mohan (Keyboard), Joseph Alexander (Electronic Drums), Joscel Alexander (Acoustic Drums), Antony Yempee (Lead Guitar), Diya Yempee (Rhythm Guitar), Shivam Padayachi (Bass Guitar), Basant Madhur (Tabla), Vindhya Suresh Ramachandra (Veena) and Balu Mallela (Mridangam and Ghatam).

Sound system will be provided by Arumugarajah Yogakumar and Master of Ceremony to be covered by Anusha Suresh Ramachandra.

Young teachers

Among the highlights of the programme would be a live instrumental and vocal concert by sisters Geerthana, Divya and Manisha Nanthakumar.

Undergraduate students at the University of Auckland respectively in their second and first years Geerthana and Divya work as Relief Music Teachers at the Remuera Music School. They cover piano, violin and music theory and prepare students to appear at the London Music Examinations.

Manisha is a Year 8 student at Auckland Normal Intermediate School.

The Benefactors

Tickets priced at $25 (Family), $10 (Adult) and $5 (Senior Citizens and Children) are available at a number of outlets, the Temple and the organisers.

East Tamaki Health Care is sponsoring the event with Kulan Kokulan, Dr Selva Selvakumar, Dr Vallipuram Sivakumar and Suren Surendran.

As done with ‘Musical Journey 2014,’ the entire ticket sales collection from the upcoming concert will be donated to the New Zealand Thirumurugan Temple Society Building Fund.
