About Maha Rudra Yagnyam

The term ‘Rudra’ refers to the fierce form of Lord Shiva. Rudra Yagna (or Yagnyam) is performed to worship Shiva. It is the most sacred and powerful among all Maha Yagnas.

The Rudra Yagna consists of Deiva Yagna (worship of Lord Shiva and Other deities), and Manushya Yagna (performed with many devotees seeking the grace of the God).

Universal Peace and Prosperity

According to the Hindu scriptures, the Yagna is performed to invoke the blessings of Lord Shiva for peace, harmony, prosperity and happiness of all human beings, irrespective of their status, income, religion, believes and political affiliations. It is believed that Lord Shiva, after killing Bhasmasura, a demon, performed the Tandav Nritya (dance) and the Rudra Yagna, for the betterment of the human race.

Rudra Yagna performed at Shri Kalahasti Temple (located about 36 kms from Tirupathi in Andhra Pradesh) is stated to be unique since the Temple houses the ‘Vayu Linga,’ one of the 12 Jyothirlingas of Lord Shiva.

Vedic yagna ritual is optional for chanting the Rudra. When accompanied with the Vedic fire ritual, it is called the Rudra Yagna. The Maha Rudra Yagna involves 56 highly learned Vedic pandits in one place. While the ‘Shukla Yajurveda’ system is practiced in North India, ‘Krishna Yajurveda’ system is followed in the South.
