Vote early to be counted

The Electoral Commission has advised all registered voters to send their voting papers exercising their choice on or before October 6, 2010, although the closing date is October 9, 2010.

Auckland Council Electoral Officer Dale Ofsoske said voting papers have been posted to all persons enrolled with the Commission.

“Voting packs for the inaugural Auckland Council elections were delivered between September 17 and 22. The pack included the actual voting document, background information (profiles) about candidates for Mayor, Wards and Local Boards, District Health Boards and Licensing Trusts where applicable.

“The voting packs also contained an orange, postage-paid envelope to return the votes to the Commission,” he said.

Mr Ofsoske said voters who are not able to post the voting document or likely to be out of town should do the needful immediately.

Those who have not received the voting pack should call 0800367656

Forms can also be obtained online www.elections.org.nz

Voters can drop their voting forms at public libraries before 12 Noon on October 9.

The Commission will announce the progress of counting and announce the preliminary results as soon as possible.

Official results will be announced during the week commencing October 11.
