The Sixth Annual Indian Newslink Sports, Community, Arts & Culture Awards Presentation Ceremony will be held from 6 pm on Monday, June 24, 2019 at the Newmarket Room, Ellerslie Convention Centre, located at 80 Ascot Avenue (near the Racecourse) in Remuera, Auckland

Let the celebrations begin!  Not only for more than 100 winners in more than 50 categories of Sports, Community, Arts and Culture segments but also for Indian Newslink.

Indian Newslink Twentieth Anniversary

Your favourite publication will commence its Twentieth Anniversary celebrations at the event with more than 700 guests representing various communities across New Zealand applauding the winners and encouraging more to follow in the ensuing years.

In many ways, it would be the first of its kind in New Zealand, and certainly for a newspaper. First to recognise achievers in Sports, Community, Arts (Non-Performing) and Culture (Performing Arts) in areas that have not been hitherto recognised. First to recognise people of other ethnic communities for their contributions in the specified fields, contributing to the success of the people of Indian origin in New Zealand. First to promote the success of more than 105 achievers at one ceremony.

Last year, we honoured Sports veterans who have excelled in various fields with Élite Sports Awards’ at the Fifth Annual Indian Newslink Sports and Community Awards (held on October 8, 2018) and promised to include achievers in Arts and Culture in 2019.

Initiatives and Relationships

Indian Newslink has a history of leading initiatives – from being the first Indian Newspaper in English to be launched in New Zealand in November 1999, to becoming the first Indian fortnightly newspaper (March 2003), launching the First Indian Business Directory (2004), the first and only Indian Business Awards (November 2008), the first Lecture Series (July 2011) and now first ever combined Sports, Community, Arts and Culture Awards.

Twenty years on, and operating out of its expanded office in East Tamaki, the publication continues to be held in high esteem, across several quarters.

The readership has been continuously on the rise across our several platforms- the print edition, three websites, social media (including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn), and Biweekly newsletters.

And yet, the Indian Newslink brand does not promote itself in the superlative, because it believes that ‘the best word is better said by others!’ and self-proclamation outrages modesty.

Its strength and recognition comes from investigative and balanced reporting, unequivocal independence and the in-depth analyses and willingness to support the members of the community wherever possible.  Its ability to cater to people, not only of Indian origin, but across several ethnicities has been the hallmark of its operations over the past 20 years. There is no official link to any government and yet it promotes professional relationship without compromising its editorial integrity.

Inspiring communities

The Indian Newslink brand provides a platform for all communities to voice their opinions that conform to normally accepted principles of public decency and morality.

Through the medium, several community initiatives are undertaken by members of the Indian and other Diaspora, and each year, more people get inspired and come together for the common good.

This extension to the Awards this year not only recognises people who have served the Indian community, but ensures a wider inclusion from the society, by honouring some people from outside New Zealand, as well as presenting Special Commemorative Awards.

We are grateful to our Title Sponsors Proficient Customer Solutions and other commercial sponsors including Legal Associates, Immigration Advice New Zealand Limited, Link2 Group, Manukau Institute of Technology, Mercury Printz, The Trophy Centre, Forever Shine Beauty, 0800 Rachna and Radio Tarana.

We are also grateful to the New Zealand Indian Central Association, Telangana Association of New Zealand, New Zealand Telugu Association, Muthamil Sangam, Kannada Koota New Zealand and Auckland Malayali Samaj for their support.
