The Filipino who defrauded more than 1000 Filipino dairy workers should have been deported and not merely sentenced to home detention and community work, New Zealand First Leader and Member of Parliament for Northland Winston Peters said.

“Our immigration laws should be taken seriously, but under National scammers are getting away with few, if any, consequences. This case highlights the appalling mismanagement of our visa application process by National, which has allowed record numbers of immigrants into New Zealand year after year, with 71,000 net in 2016 alone, Mr Peters said.
“New Zealand’s immigration laws must be strengthened to prevent instances like this from occurring again and a strong message should be sent to anyone who tries to break them,” he added.

A Waikato woman convicted of multiple visa fraud charges involving Filipino dairy workers has been sentenced to home detention and community work.
Multiple charges
Loraine Jayme, 36, last year pleaded guilty to 284 charges, including forgery, supplying false information and obtaining by deception.
Between late 2014 and mid-2015, she charged 17 Filipino migrants just over $2000 each to obtain temporary work visas for them to work on dairy farms in New Zealand.
At Hamilton District Court today, Judge Kim Saunders described the offending as deliberate and a serious breach of trust.
The judge sentenced Jayme to 11 months and two weeks home detention and 180 hours of community work.
In a statement, Immigration NZ said Jayme “systematically ripped off vulnerable migrant workers.”
