Women golfers shine for charity

A group of 100 women golfers raised more than $29,000 at the ‘Giltrap Audi Annual Ladies Golf Classic’ held at the Grange Golf Club in Otahuhu on November 23, 2012.

The Annual event this year attracted 36 teams, who played 18 holes in support of ‘Shine,’ an organisation that has been campaigning against family violence to make our homes violence-free.

The money will fund home security upgrades for eight families through the ‘Shine safe@home Service,’ which was recently expanded (from Central Auckland) to include Tauranga, Manukau and Christchurch.

Giltrap Audi General Manager, Gary Perriam said that his Company was proud to be involved with Shine.

“We recognise the need to assist women and children who suffer from domestic abuse. We believe that it is every person’s right to live in a violence-free home,” he said.

Shine Executive Director Jane Drumm said that safe homes save lives and taxpayers’ money.

“It costs $3.9 million for each homicide inquiry, yet only $3700 to make a home safe through Shine safe@home helping to prevent a homicide,” she said.
