Young singer captivates Bollywood fans

While the artiste from Bollywood regaled the audience with mimicry and comedy, a young singer from our own community entertained music lovers with his melodious voice.

Raju Srivastav from Mumbai was undoubtedly the star performer of the evening but Avish Sharma also showed promise as a musician.

If the songs that he rendered at the Logan Campbell Centre in Auckland on October 7 were any indication, he would go far as a professional singer.

His music was a fitting tribute to Rajesh Khanna, Bollywood’s first Superstar who passed away in Mumbai on July 18 (Indian Newslink, August 1, 2012).

Later, Avish also demonstrated his versatility by rendering songs in various styles. His repertoire was remarkable.

Although the show started on time, it went on for an hour past the schedule, in deference to the wishes of the audience. More than 1500 men, women and children, from various parts of the country, attended the show.

If people did not like to leave Srivastav, there was a good reason.

From taking on the voices of Amjad Khan (as ‘Gabbar Singh’ in Sholay) to imitating the voices of Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Rajesh Khanna, the mimicry artiste relived the bygone days of their dominance in the film industry.

He added his own situation comedies, proving that he is a master in the field, allowing people to laugh out loud, forgetting their worldly worries at least for a while.

Dharmesh Parikh, Director of Reshab D Productions Limited based in Auckland was the event organiser.
