Caution against fake visa website

Wellington based Indian High Commission has cautioned the public over a fake website allegedly duping those applying for visas to visit India.

A press note said that the fake website (www.indiavisa.co.in), based in Oman was fraudulent and that the Indian Government had taken action with the appropriate parties to shut it down.

“It now appears that the same website has started functioning with a new URL and the URL address keeps changing frequently. It seems that the spurious website is now registered in UK.

“All concerned may kindly be aware and note that our official website address is www.hicomind.org.nz and that the universal online visa application URL of the Indian Government is www.indianvisaonline.gov.in,” the press note said.

New Zealanders affected by the abovementioned fraudulent website may complain to the nearest police station.
