We are sorry to report the sudden demise of Ezhilarasi, younger sister of Muthtamil Sangam Auckland General Secretary Kathiravan Sam in Chennai, India yesterday- Thursday, October 22, 2020.

It is understood that she contracted Covid-19 less than a week ago and was hospitalised after being diagnosed with the disease.

Ezhilarasi was 48 years old and left behind her husband AGT Mathiazhagan owner of Dhanalakshmi Pharmacy near Saidapet in Chennai and their only son Tarun Kumar, an IIT Chennai graduate currently employed in Bengaluru.

Family devastated

“We are devastated. Ezhilarasi was my only sibling and we are a tight-knit family. She was well until a week ago and apparently got infected with Covid-19 and was hospitalised. My sister was well-known within the community and neighbourhood and was regarded as a very kind person to customers of their Pharmacy and Medical Centre. She was the kindest person I knew. I am even more distressed that I am unable to attend the funeral, which will be held at 10 am IST (about 530 pm NZT),” Kathiravan said.

Condolence Message

In a message, Muthtamil Sangam President Sadasivam Kutty conveyed the condolences of the Association and the members of the Tamil-speaking community to Kathiravan and his family.

“This is an unprecedentedly sad circumstance that he cannot attend the funeral due to Covid-19. Kathiravan is a longstanding, active member of our Sangam and his contributions over the years have been highly significant,” he said.
