Dunedin Tamils to mark Deepavali on November 7

Tamilians in Dunedin eagerly look forward to their annual Diwali celebrations on November 7, 2020 at Taieri Bowling Club, located at Brooklands Park 12, Wickliffe Street, Mosgiel.

Dunedin Tamil Society is organising the event to showcase Tamil culture and tradition and bring together members of other communities.

Society President Dr Nivethanan Kamalendran said that the Association Deepavali 2020 aims to foster understanding, friendship, goodwill and appreciation between Tamil-speaking people and various cross-sections of the people of Dunedin Region.

“Dunedin Tamil Society is a nonprofit, charitable organisation which promotes the rich heritage of the Tamil speaking population in the wider Dunedin region. We organise community events throughout the year. Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, is one of the most auspicious celebrations for Hindus, Tamils and Indians worldwide,” he said.
