A range of paintings that would go on display at an exhibition in Auckland this weekend will bring pride and joy to many people, including the artist, her parents, family, teachers and peers.

The paintings of fifteen-year-old Eksimar Sahni will be on display on Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 11 am to 4 pm at Mount Roskill War Memorial Hall, located at 13 May Road, Mount Roskill, Auckland.

Colours of India

The youngster will present at least 35 paintings under the theme, ‘Colours of India,’ bringing to the canvas her vision of her motherland with a mixture of abstract, contemporary and modern art.

“I have been truly inspired by India, a land of colours, natural beauty, people and a host of other beautiful things. I hope people will like the visual expression of my inner thoughts of my motherland,” she said.

Her parents Harneet Singh Sahni and Parmeet Sahni have been promoting their daughter, saying that every artist dips his or her brush into their soul to create a part of themselves onto a canvas.

Self-Expression

“Simar has been painting since she was three years old and has always preferred colours and brushes instead of dolls and toys. Although she has had no formal training, she is often inspired by other artists and ideas that she gains online. We are very happy to see the distance she has travelled thus far and how her talent has developed,” Ms Parmeet said.

We reporter on her first exhibition held on December 19, 2015 in our January 15, 2016 issue.

“The fact that parental support, sacrifice and guidance are quintessential was also proved by her parents, who invested all their spare time for promoting their daughter.

And the result showed. Eksimar had about 75 people visiting her gallery of 25 paintings at the exhibition held on December 19, 2015. Among them were National MP Dr Parmjeet Parmar and Jeet Suchdev, Chairman, Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust, which sponsored the exhibition. Eksimar later presented one of her paintings to then Prime Minister John Key,” we had said.

The verdict of most visitors was unanimous: “This little girl is expressive and artistic.”

Gifted child

Describing her daughter as a child prodigy, Ms Sahni said that Eksimar is most comfortable with her colour palette and canvas.

“Art is an outlet for our creativity and Eksimar touches different themes through the splashes of colour. Her paintings have been showcased in the past and she not only got appreciation but her work sold out as hot cakes,” Ms Sahni said.
