Former New Zealand resident Abdul Nasir Baig passes away

We are sorry to report that former New Zealand resident and one of the most famous cinematographers Abdul Nasir Baig passed away in Mumbai.

The date of his death is unclear but according to a source, he breathed his last on Monday, May 10, 2021. We will publish revised information if any, in due course.

He is reported to have succumbed to Covid-19.

Baig used to correspond with this Reporter regularly and would comment on many of our stories and convey his good wishes to all New Zealanders.

Professional Cinematographer

‘Baig Da,’ as he was known, Baig was in the team that established Mirchi TV in the late 1990s and worked with that company as a cinematographer with dedication and commitment.

He is also very well known in the Hindi film industry for his high level of professionalism and commitment.

Baig was the videographer for many Indian Newslink programmes including our Business Awards in 2008 and 2009. He left for Mumbai in 2010 but returned for a few years before heading back to his place of birth.

Good human

His friend Deepak Antani, who is a Hindi film writer, actor and producer said, “We have lost a very good human being. He was a singer and creative person. We had chatted just a few days before he died. He had made the TV Series titled, ‘Sanvedna Na Soor.’ We used to argue on many issues,” he said.
