Four Diwali events take Bhartiya Samaj to communities

Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust, which has been serving various segments of the South Asian communities for the past 15 years or more, organised four Diwali festivals this week bringing spreading joy and goodwill through its volunteers and well-wishers.

October 14: For Seniors

The first of these, held on October 14, 2017, brought together 200 senior members of the community at Mt Roskill. Popular Ghazal singer Harish Kathnore regaled the elders, some of who are consider Bhartiya Samaj as their second home. Thanks to Bhartiya Samaj, the elders get an opportunity to observe Diwali, the Festival of Lights.

October 15: For Children

People of Indian origin would experience the excitement of children as Diwali approaches as this is an occasion for them to don new clothes, consume sweets and visit family and friends. Celebrating the Festival with friends is a special feature of Diwali for children.

Such an opportunity was provided by Bhartiya Samaj on October 15, 2017 for children attending the ‘Bal Vikas Language and Cultural Classes.’ As well as watching a ‘Diwali’ Video, they played games, enjoyed sweets and savouries and participated in a Henna session.

October 16: For Seniors

The South Auckland branch of Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust conducted a Diwali programme for its Seniors in the area at Flat Bush. The programme included music, dance, and lunch,

October 17: For Rest Home Residents

Officials and volunteers of Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust brought smiles on the faces of home residents of Bupa David Lange Rest Home in Mangere East, a suburb in South Auckland on October 17, 2017.

They were amused to see the Rest Home decorated with Diwali colours and entertained with songs and dances.

Bhartiya Samaj President Jeet Suchdev said, “We have more than 25 residents of Indian origin living in this Rest Home. Due to health reasons, they are unable to participate in Diwali events held at other venues. Hence, we took Diwali to them.”
