Indian Minister V Muraleedharan due in New Zealand next week

India’s Minister of State External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Vellamvelly Muraleedharan will be in New Zealand on a three-day official visit next week.

It is understood that he will be the Chief Guest at the 70th Anniversary of Republic Day Celebrations being organised by the Auckland Indian Association (AIA) at its Mahatma Gandhi Centre located at 145 New North Road, Eden Terrace on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

The event will commence at 6 pm and will include speeches and a cultural programme. Thereafter, he is due to attend the T20 International Cricket Match between India and New Zealand to be played from 8 pm at Eden Park.

AIA is marking its 100th Anniversary this year, with a series of celebrations, which will be officially launched by Mr Muraleedharan. Please read our short story here.

Mr Muraleedharan will be a Guest of Honour at a Reception being hosted by India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand Muktesh Pardeshi and his wife Rakhi on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 615 pm at Bharat Bhavan, 48 Kemp Street, Kilbirnie, Wellington.

The Republic Day Celebrations in the New Zealand capital will be attended by ministers, members of parliament, diplomats, community leaders and others.

About V Muraleedharan

Vellamvelly Muraleedharan has been a senior member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the past 22 years and is Member of Rajya Sabha (the Upper House of Parliament) from the Western State of Maharashtra. He was deeply involved with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for more than 40 years. The Parishad is a student-youth organisation, with more than three million members nationwide, and is affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Born in Eranholi, Thalasseri in Kannur District of the South Indian State of Kerala, Mr Muraleedharan was the eighth State President of BJP in his home State.

He was sworn in as the Union Minister of State on May 30, 2019 following the general election. On June 12, 2019, he was appointed as the Government Deputy Chief Whip in Rajya Sabha.

About Republic Day

While India obtained independence on August 15, 1947, it declared itself a Democratic Republic on January 26, 1950, de-linking the country from the British Crown.

India also established its own rule under a democratically elected President.

Many Indians consider January 26 as the completion of the process of independence which began several years earlier under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and his associates.

Seven decades of political and economic independence, punctuated by periods of boom and gloom have helped the equilibrium of the India’s teeming millions and today there is a growing sense of optimism. With the economy is performing well above the global average and with almost every industry on its progressive path, there is cause for celebration.

As Indians mark this occasion with gaiety in India and elsewhere in the world, multinationals and international investors continue to eye the country to make their own presence felt in the land of culture and talent.

Prosperity linked to Innovation

Speaking at the inaugural session of the 107th Indian Science Congress in Bengaluru on January 3, 2020. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the importance of innovation and raising productivity.

“My motto for the young scientists bourgeoning in this country has been -”Innovate, Patent, Produce and Prosper. These four steps will lead our country towards faster development. If we innovate, we will patent and that in turn will make our production smoother and when we take these products to the people of our country, they will prosper. Innovation for the people and by the people is the direction of our New India,” he said.

OECD Report

In its December 2019 Report, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)

acknowledged India’s rising importance in the global economy and the country’s outstanding performance in some services.

“Exposure to trade has surged after the reduction in tariff barriers in the early 1990s. In the information and technology sector, India’s export market share has boomed, creating many skilled employment opportunities and attracting foreign investment. India is also performing well in some complex, skill and capital-intensive goods such as transport vehicles and pharmaceuticals. The India Diaspora, the largest in the world, is an asset in developing new markets,” the Report said.

Republic Day 2020 could well be the beginning of another era of prosperity for India and Indians.
