Indian spiritual leader due here

Swami Laxman Dass Maharaj, who has a large following among devotees all over the world, will be in New Zealand later this month.

He is the Founder of Vishwa Shanthi Ashram, which has its headquarters in Ayodha in Uttar Pradesh (India) and branches in many parts of the world.

In Auckland, the Ashram is based in Papatoetoe.

The organisation is involved in educational and charitable activities.

Swami Laxman Dass is expected to arrive in Auckland on April 20 and give nightly discourses in Papatoetoe.

He will also visit Hamilton and Wellington, before leaving for Australia on May 12.

Kumbh Mela

He led 33 followers from New Zealand at the Kumbh Mela 2013 held in Allahabad in January 2013.

Among them were Anand Gounder, Anjilin Vineet Singh, Ben Mati Kumar,Deoki Sami, Dhirend Raj, Ishwar Raju, Kamini Rita Devi Maharaj, Kamlesh Chand, Kishore Lal, Pandit Mani Ram Sharma, Nilesh Nandan, Noleen Nandan, Phul Kumari Gounder, Pooja Vishika Prasad, Pushpa Singh, Raghubans Singh, Ram Kali, Pandit Ram Kumar Sewak, Ram Samujh, Roshni Lal, Rukhmani Shatrohan, Pandit Salesh Maharaj, Saras Wati, Sarojini Narayan, Sarwan Kumar, Shami Kumar, Shanti Devi, Shiu Chand, Shrimati Ram, Suruj Narayan Singh, Susheel Wati, Urmila Kumar and Vidya Wati Raj.

“Participating in the Kumbh Mela, bathing in the sacred Ganga River and listening to the teachings of Hinduism by Swami Laxman Dass were a part of an unforgettable spiritual journey,” Shami Kumar, owner of Vaesno Tours said.

Kumbh Mela is the world’s largest religious gathering, with 80 million people attending this year’s event.

It is held every third year at one of the four places by rotation, namely Haridwar, Allahabad (Prayag), Nasik and Ujjain.
