INL Business Awards Night gets bigger and better

A cross-section of New Zealand ‘s business community will be present at the Sky City Convention Centre in Auckland City on November 14 to applaud the winners and finalists of the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards (IBA) 2011.

More than 700 men and women, including manufacturers, exporters, entrepreneurs, professionals and consultants will be present at the event, which will be bigger, better and more spectacular this year.

Prime Minister John Key, Trade Minister Tim Groser, Opposition Leader Phil Goff, Auckland Mayor Len Brown, Indian High Commissioner Admiral Sureesh Mehta and Anthony Healy and Alan Young, respectively Director and Regional Managing Partner (Northern), BNZ Partners will be among the Guests of Honour.

Sponsors’ Exhibition

The Awards Night will include for the first time an exhibition of products and services of the Sponsors in the Marlborough Rooms adjacent to the main Convention Centre.

Details of the exhibition, which will open at 5 pm, will be published in an ensuing issue of Indian Newslink.

This year’s programme will also include complimentary cocktails and canapés for all guests, commencing at 5 pm at the Promenade.

IBA 2011 has ten main categories namely Business Excellence in Restaurant Trade, Business Excellence in Retail, Business Excellence in Innovation, Business Excellence in Marketing, Business Excellence in Customer Service, Business Excellence in Property Investment, Business Excellence in Agriculture and Horticulture, Best Small or Medium Sized Enterprise Business, Best Large Business and Business Excellence in Export to India. In addition, nominations and/or direct entries were also invited for the Best Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Best Businesswoman of the Year Awards. Winners in these categories will automatically enter the Supreme Business of the Year Award.

Category Changes

Based on suggestions received from Indian Newslink readers, this year’s Awards Scheme features modifications and additions. Small and Medium sized Business have been merged into a single category, while Best Professional Services Business has been renamed Business Excellence in Customer Service. The Indian community’s traditional role in agriculture and horticulture and the growing involvement of Indian businesses in the property sector have led to the creation of two new categories.

The Awards Scheme is open to all businesses owned, operated, managed and franchised by people of Indian origin registered in New Zealand. However, the Business Excellence in Export to India is open all businesses registered in New Zealand exporting a product or service to India.

Entries to the various categories were open from March 1, 2011 to August 31, 2011. A panel of judges, independent of this newspaper, is currently evaluating the entries and will announce the finalists and winners at the Awards Night.

Convention Centre

While the management and staff of Stamford Plaza Hotel hosted the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards Presentation Night and Dinner for three years, providing high quality facilities and services, the event has grown in scope and size, warranting a larger venue.

The Sky City Convention Centre, where the Awards Night Dinner and Presentation Ceremony will he held this year, is among the largest and most technically advanced venues in New Zealand. With 23 purposely designed state-of-the art convention rooms, lending themselves to optional configurations, it offers huge scope and flexibility for the event.

A glass air bridge connects the Convention Centre with Sky City leisure complex, including a Theatre that can accommodate 700 viewers. The Complex also accounts for Sky City Grand, a five-star hotel with 316 rooms.

Car Park facility

Guests attending the Awards Night will have the benefit of a special rate for parking their vehicles at the Sky City Car Park, details of which will appear in our next issue.
