Netball Tournament for Miss Universe New Zealand contestant

Entries to the Netball Tournament for the ‘2018 Netball for Goals Cup’ close on Monday, July 23, 2018, organiser Priyena (Priya) Prasad has announced.

The Tournament will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Manurewa Netball Centre, located at 95 Browns Road, Manurewa, South Auckland.

About the Tournament

Ms Prasad is organising the Tournament to raise funds for ‘Variety, the Children’s Charity,’ as a part of the Miss Universe New Zealand Contest.

The teams should comprise people of Indian and Fijian origin but two outsiders will be permitted to participate in each team, she said.

Winners of the Tournament would receive $600, $500 and $400 respectively as First, Second and Third Prizes.

“There would be food stalls at the Tournament, which is being organised for members of the Fijian and Indian communities. In addition to the prize money, I am seeking sponsorship of my event called the ‘Entrepreneurial Challenge,’ which is a part of the Miss Universe New Zealand Contest. I am hoping to raise as much as possible for ‘Variety’ as well as for the Pageant. I am Looking forward to the support of our people,” Priya said.

“Fifty Percent of the proceeds of this Tournament will be donated to ‘Variety,’ to help disadvantaged children. They deserve opportunities to reach their full potential. The remaining 50% will be used for my Miss Universe New Zealand journey,” she added.

The Miss Universe New Zealand Final will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at SkyCity Convention Centre in Auckland.

About Priyena Prasad

Twenty-One-Year old Priyena Prasad was born in Auckland and was educated at Epsom Girls Grammar School. She is a Fijian by lineage (her parents are from Suva and Ba) and is currently employed at the Social Development Ministry and is pursuing graduation studies in Business at Massey University.

Passion for Sports

Her passion for sports took her to the Auckland and North Harbour NPC where she was the only girl of Indian origin to play with the Fiji Under 21 team.

“While I am grateful for what I have achieved in Netball, I thought it would be a good time to try out for the Miss Universe New Zealand Competition,” she said.
