New Zealand businesses head to India for Indus Food Show

A delegation of ten businesspersons from New Zealand representing various aspects of the food industry including refrigeration is heading to India to participate in ‘Indus Food Show,’ beginning in Noida (New Okhla Industrial Development Authority) next week.

NOIDA is located about 50 kilometers from Delhi.

Wellington Chapter Head of India New Zealand Business Council (INZBC) Jay Changlani is leading the delegation to what promises to be one of the largest shows of its kind in the world.

The two-day exhibition, being held at the India Exposition Mart in Greater Noida, will bring together more than 400 suppliers and about 500 hosted international buyers.

An INZBC Press Note said that the Indus Food Exposition Mart is the hub of the Food and Beverage industry enabling those involved to maximise their business opportunities. “Supported by Department of Commerce of the Indian Government, Indus Food is a Mega F&B industry trade show for the world,” it said.

Massive figures

According to the organisers of the exhibition, India is the ‘Food Bowl of the World, with total agriculture and food exports, currently placed at US$ 31 billion, is expected to reach US$ 73 billion and the Compound Annual Growth Rate of Indian Packaged Food Market is projected to grow from US$ 31 billion to US$ 70 billion.

“India is the top global producer of Meat, Milk, Castor Seed, Sesame, Mango, Banana, Chickpeas and other items. India is also among the top producers of Rice, Wheat, Sugarcane,

Spices, Onion and Potatoes. The country’s Food Processing Industry is currently valued at US$ 258 billion. The Indian Food Retail Industry accounts for the sixth largest Grocery Market in the world, the value of which is expected to reach $US 895 billion in 2020,” they said.

Business without FTA

Mr Changlani said that fostering relationships and creating a platform for opportunities for business in India and New Zealand are key to the success of INZBC.

“The INZBC team and Trade Promotion Council of India are very excited about this opportunity to showcase that trade can even be conducted between India and NZ without a Free Trade Agreement,” he said.
